Archie Comics’ Toni Topaz is coming to Riverdale Season 2, executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed to ET Online. The young woman, who is strongly hinted to be bisexual in the comics, will be played by Vanessa Morgan of The Shannara Chronicles.

Aguirre-Sacasa describes the addition to the cast as “vivacious member of the Southside Serpents, who is known for her signature pink hair and impressive appetite.” He also hinted that her arrival will spell trouble for the burgeoning Jughead-Betty relationship, and that Toni’s sexuality will be “explored” during the second season.

The showrunner also promised a bigger and better Season 2, with two or three big mysteries instead of one, thanks to an increase in the number of episodes from 13 to 22.

“The biggest thing that I think I'm most excited about, and that most people will be excited about, is just to have more time with these characters that they love," he told the site. “We all wanted [22 episodes] and that’s what we were working towards, so we're really excited about it. It's a huge mountain to climb but we're ready.”

The announcement of Morgan’s casting as Topaz confirms a rumor that the character would be making the leap to the screen. In late June, an audition tape surfaced featuring Boyhood’s Lorelei Linklater trying out for the part.
