Riverdale Season 5 will take place after a seven-year time jump, according to series star Lili Reinhart. During those seven years, a lot happens to Archie Andrews --including joining the military.

A casting sheet revealed three different characters, each with ties to the military and a brief synopsis on their ties to Archie.

The first role is for Eric Jackson. The casting sheet reads, "Male, 20s. Open ethnicity. A veteran who lost his leg and suffered third-degree burns while fighting in the Army with Archie. Ironically, Eric joins Archie to help run the fire department in Riverdale. But Eric is still dealing with his own trauma, which leads him into a darker place. ACTORS WHO ARE LEG AMPUTEES ARE ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT… RECURRING GUEST STAR."

A minor role for a bus driver reads, "Male, 40s, any ethnicity. Drives the bus Archie takes out to the Army. Takes his job seriously but still pulls over when Archie’s friends want to give a final goodbye…"

The final role on the casting sheet is for Officer Bradshaw. The sheet reads, "Male, 30s, any ethnicity. Works the Army recruitment table at Riverdale High. Happily gives Archie information about the Army but stresses the seriousness of the commitment…"

In Riverdale, Archie has waffled between several different choices for his future, including becoming a professional boxer and deciding if he wants to go to college at all. Another choice he toyed with in Season 4 was to go to the Naval Academy. It seems like the military might be the future he chooses in the end after all, as he's clearly set to join the army.

In the comics, Archie has joined the military before in 2018's Archie 1941. Written by Brian Augustyn and Mark Waid with art by Peter Krause, the story takes place in the past as Archie suits up to fight in World War II. Riverdale's fifth season might put a modern twist on this story, potentially echoing several plot points such as Archie's perceived death.

The first few episodes of Riverdale Season 5 will be used to wrap up Season 4, which got cut short due to coronavirus halting production. Once Season 5 hits, the seven-year time jump commences, promising several twists and turns.

Riverdale stars KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch, Casey Cott, Vanessa Morgan, Mark Consuelos, Skeet Ulrich, Marisol Nichols and Madchen Amick. The series returns for Season 5 in January 2021 on The CW.
