Riverdale will jump ahead seven years during its upcoming fifth season --and during those five years, a lot changes. Some of these changes include a new serious girlfriend for Jughead and a husband for Veronica.

The casting sheet for Season 5 revealed two new roles. The call for "Jessica" reads, "Female, 20s, Open ethnicity. A train-wreck-y hipster, Jessica is Jughead’s live-in girlfriend. Jessica makes no secret of the fact that she’s done with their relationship since she can see that she’s not as important to him as the book he’s not writing. RECURRING GUEST STAR."

The other role is for Chad Gekko. His call reads, "Male, 20s. White. Chad is Veronica’s controlling and neurotic husband who works on Wall Street. Though charming, his failed Ponzi scheme and shady deals with Hiram reveal his moral duplicity, putting Chad’s life in danger. RECURRING GUEST STAR."

When Riverdale Season 4 ended, Jughead and Betty Cooper were still very much together. Veronica Lodge was also still with her boyfriend, Archie Andrews by the season's end (despite a brief, episode-long fling with Archie and Betty). It seems both of these relationships have a rude awakening in store to make way for Jessica and Chad.

Riverdale stars KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch, Casey Cott, Vanessa Morgan, Mark Consuelos, Skeet Ulrich, Marisol Nichols and Madchen Amick. The series returns for Season 5 in January 2021 on The CW.
