Riverdale's Bernadette Beck has criticized The CW show for failing to develop its Black characters.

"I feel like I was just there to fulfill a diversity quota. It's just to fulfill points," Beck told Elle. The actor, who plays Peaches 'N Cream, added, "I get it, there's always a protagonist and antagonist, but I never had much of a story plot or enough character development to even be considered an antagonist."

Beck said her character is so underwritten, sometimes the crew forgot to give her direction before filming a scene. "I was completely forgotten in the scene more than once. The director [would] be walking off set and I'd have to chase them down because I had no idea where to stand, what to do -- I just hadn’t been given any instruction," Beck said. "You can't treat people like they're invisible and then pat yourself on the back for meeting your diversity quota for the day."

The Peaches 'N Cream actor's criticisms mirror those of her co-star Vanessa Morgan, who tweeted that she is "tired of us also being used as sidekick, non-dimensional characters to our white leads. Or only used in the ads for diversity but not actually in the show."

Riverdale stars KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch, Casey Cott, Vanessa Morgan, Mark Consuelos, Skeet Ulrich, Marisol Nichols and Madchen Amick. The series returns for Season 5 in January 2021 on The CW.
