Nickelodeon is definitely feeling confident about the upcoming animated series Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Ahead of the series premiere this September, the network has announced they have already renewed the animated Ninja Turtles reboot for a full second season consisting of 26 episodes. The surprise announcement was made at a Television Critics Association (TCA) press event in Burbank this morning.
The animated reboot will see the familiar faces of Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo use new powers as they fight crime and face new enemies including John Cena as the villainous Baron Draxum and Lena Headey as the mutant spider Big Mama.
With a reimagined look at the iconic heroes in a half-shell along with their mentor Splinter and friend April O’Neil, the new animated series will completely re-introduce the classic comic book superheroes to new audiences around the world. Production on Season 2 is expected to begin this fall.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stars Omar Miller as Raph, Ben Schwartz as Leo, Josh Brener as Donnie, Brandon Mychal Smith as Mikey, Kat Graham as April O’Neil, and Eric Bauza as Splinter. It is scheduled to premiere on September 17 on Nickelodeon.
