Netflix has released an official trailer for Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie, the upcoming animated feature based on the 2018-2020 Nickelodeon cartoon.

The trailer for Rise of the TMNT: The Movie reintroduces fans to the versions of Leonardo (Ben Schwartz), Raphael (Omar Benson Miller), Michelangelo (Brandon Mychal Smith) and Donatello (Josh Brener) that first appeared in Nickelodeon's Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The film also sees Kat Graham and Eric Bauza reprise their roles as April O'Neil and Master Splinter, respectively, with franchise newcomer Haley Joel Osment joining the fray as classic TMNT character Casey Jones.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back in action and up to their teenage antics in this comedic adventure that raises the stakes higher than ever before.

Directed by Ant Ward and Andy Suriano from a script by Tony Gama-Lobo and Rebecca May, Rise of the TMNT: The Movie is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on Friday, Aug. 5. The film is produced by Nickelodeon Movies and Nickelodeon Animation Studio. "The teen turtles and their mystic ninja powers are put to the ultimate test when ruthless creatures from another universe look to unleash extreme chaos," an official synopsis reads.

From Nickelodeon to Netflix

One of the various incarnations of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise to hit screens over the years, Rise of the TMNT originally premiered on Nickelodeon in July 2018. The Annie Award-winning series ran for a total of two seasons, concluding in August 2020. The show also spawned a tie-in comic book series from IDW Publishing. IDW's Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ran for six issues (#0-#5) from July 2018 to February 2019. Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Sound Off! then ran for three issues from July 2019 to September 2019.

Of course, Rise of the TMNT is not the only Nickelodeon original series to get a Netflix-exclusive feature film. Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus hit Netflix in August 2019, with The Loud House Movie following suit in August 2021. While not a feature-length release, the television special Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling also premiered exclusively on Netflix in 2019, the same month as Enter the Florpus. Moreover, Netflix will soon be home to a live-action series based on the beloved Nickelodeon animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie premieres Aug. 5 on Netflix.
