Rise of the Guardians Screenwriter Officially Boards Poltergeist

The long-gestating Poltergeist remake might have just gotten the forward momentum it needs.

During a conversation at a screening for Rise of the Guardians, ShockTillYouDrop learned that screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire (Robots, Oz: The Great and Powerful) is busy working on a screenplay for Poltergeist. This is the first we’ve heard about the movie in nearly six months.

Lindsay-Abaire was first rumored to be attached to the property last year, but at the time he said he wasn’t sure if it was a project he wanted to do. Apparently it was producer Sam Raimi, whom Lindsay-Abaire almost worked with twice before, who convinced him to come on board.

“Lindsay-Abaire said that it was Raimi who asked him if he wanted to write the new Poltergeist and that he hasn’t read any of the previous scripts that had been floating around and is indeed starting from scratch. He told us how much he loves the original movie and that he hopes to pay tribute to it with his version, but that’s all he could say,” ShockTillYouDrop writes.

The remake for Poltergeist was announced in February 2011 along with MGM’s plans to reboot RoboCop. Although a lot of headway has been made on that project and it’s already filming, we haven’t heard much about Poltergeist.

In April, it was revealed Raimi would produce the film along with Nathan Kahane, Roy Lee and Robert Tapert.
