The new trailer for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts teases major destruction to come if Optimus Prime doesn't get his alliance right. Unicron is looking to devour Earth, sending Scourge and other Terrorcon agents down as the first wave. It's why Optimus Primal and the Maximals want to partner with Optimus Prime.

They need numbers, and unified with the heroic Autobots, they may be able to turn the tide. Interestingly, Pete Davidson's Mirage gets major air-time, affirming he's going to be a key Autobot in this continued soft reboot of the Michael Bay movies. Shockingly, Mirage has a huge moment at the end of the trailer when he offers up an Iron Man-like weapon that nods to the classic 1986 animated movie.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Nods to the Exosuit

Transformers' Daniel has Spike's exosuit

In The Transformers: The Movie, Spike and his son, Daniel, had exosuits they had to manually jump into to help them in battle. With the evil Megatron, who became Galvatron, and the Decepticons hunting them, they were desperate for protection while on the lam. This suit aided the humans by offering a robotic shell, nodding to Iron Man's many armors. They could survive the vacuum of space and, as the later cartoons would show, water and more dangerous terrain.

Various suits would allow them to turn into vehicles, submarines and airships, becoming combat-ready. In the Rise of the Beasts trailer, an exosuit is hinted at when Mirage tells Noah to "take the wheel," throwing him a gauntlet that sticks to his hand. It begins to unravel a suit, but the clip ends before the big reveal. It's a nice tease, nodding to Tony Stark from the Marvel Cinematic Universe who used a similar gauntlet and nanotech to coat his body. Thus, it feels like this movie is offering something more streamlined and sleek in design, a la Stark's Extremis. It makes sense as so many viewers are accustomed to what Marvel Studios has done -- which has even influenced the likes of the Blue Beetle movie.

What this suit does is change the idea of soldiers working with the bots. In the Michael Bay movies, the military stole Autobot and Decepticon tech to build their own weapons and machines, not fully understanding what they were unleashing. This time, it seems the bots are more accepting and trusting, creating better emotional attachments and friendships. From a visual standpoint, these suits are better than wielding guns, creating super-soldiers in an innovative breath of fresh air.

This connects humans to the bots even more, adding style and substance. The exosuit may even lead to the wider military getting access, upgrading Earth's forces for future incursions. But in the meantime, Noah and whoever else boots up won't fit the damsel in distress trope where the likes of Bumblebee constantly had to save Sam and those who merely tagged along for the ride. This way, the humans can be on the offensive -- aggressive and not waiting for sneaky openings. Ultimately, this puts the humans on somewhat level footing, allowing them to fire back, transform and save the bots when needed.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts hits theaters on June 9, 2023.
