Plenty of new details about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker have been revealed at this year's D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, including hints about the franchise's new character Zorri Bliss, played by Keri Russell.
While appearing on the red carpet for the official Disney fan event, Russell and co-star Oscar Isaac were asked about Russell's role in the upcoming sequel, hinting that she would be connected to Poe Dameron's past. "She has a little bit of a checkered past and maybe some questionable morals but, really, she's an old friend of Poe's," explained Russell in an interview with Variety. "I think the entrance of Zorri is there to sort of describe more of who he was, you know, in a very intimate way, a very familiar way, and there friends are sort of like 'What do you mean you know him?'"
Russell's role in the film had first been revealed this past May. Since then, details about her character have been kept under wraps, but she will reportedly have connections with the galaxy's criminal underworld, making her reunion with Poe all the more awkward.
"It's complicated," admitted Isaac. "But also, what I think is amazing about Zorri too is you get to kind of hear a bit of what it is like to be someone that's necessarily in the fight between the First Order and the Resistance but in the universe. These are the people all this stuff is affecting."
Directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Keri Russell, Matt Smith, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams and Carrie Fisher, with Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant. The film arrives on Dec. 20.
