Riri Williams will make her animated debut in the upcoming Secret Warriors special, Marvel Rising: Heart of Iron.
The special will follow college student Riri Williams, voiced by Sofia Wylie (Andi Mack), as she's spurred into action when the Kree Hala the Accuser kidnaps her best friend. Inspired by Tony Stark, Riri constructs her own suit of armor and blasts off into action as Ironheart.
“I feel so honored to be a part of the Marvel family," Wylie said in a statement, "but more importantly I’m excited to join a cast of diverse, strong intelligent women! I can’t wait for fans to see my character and to see a little of themselves in this powerful young woman.”
This is one of two Marvel Rising animated specials in production. The other, Chasing Ghosts, follows Ghost-Spider as she recruits the team to help her as she tries to finally bring down the villainous pair of Sheath and Exile.
Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors centers around young Marvel heroes who band together to help protect the world. The team, which includes Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, America Chavez, Inferno, Patriot and Quake, helps Captain Marvel to fight off a Kree attack on Earth.
Introduced in 2016 by Marvel Comics, Riri took over Iron Man after the events of Civil War II left Tony Stark in a coma. She's become one of Marvel’s most prominent new characters, joining the Champions and upgrading her suit after running into Thanos while on a mission with the team. This suit will be her primary look in the upcoming animated special.
Marvel Rising: Heart of Iron stars Sofia Wylie, Ming-Na Wen, Kim Raver Dove Cameron, Tyler Posey, Chloe Bennet, Cierra Ramirez, Milana Vayntrub, Kathreen Khavari, Kamil McFadden, Dee Bradley Baker, Mick Wingert and Melanie Minichino.
