The Rin Tin Tin franchise is making a comeback.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has tapped Scoob and The Addams Family writer Matt Lieberman to pen a new film centered on the eponymous German Shepard. The project will be produced by Andrew Lazar's Mad Chance, along with Rin Tin Tin rights holders Sasha Jensen and Jeff Miller.

The Rin Tin Tin franchise originated with a German Shepard named Rinty, who was rescued by an America Soldier Lee Duncan during World War I. Duncan trained Rinty and the canine went on to appear in 27 films, becoming a worldwide success in the process. What's more, the profitability of the Rin Tin Tin films helped keep a struggling Warner Bros. afloat.

As for the new project, Deadline reports the studio wants to "reinvent Rin Tin Tin as a modern action star, the John Wick of dogs. Here, the hero is an elite military dog on a covert mission to prevent a large scale attack. The film will be live action."
