Now that he’s finished Prometheus and the story for the Blade Runner follow-up is being worked on, director Ridley Scott will set his sights on a new world, that of Cormac McCarthy’s The Counselor.
Deadline reports Scott wants Prometheus star Michael Fassbender to take on the lead role for the film, described as “No Country For Old Men on steroids.”
McCarthy, author of The Road, All the Pretty Horses and the aforementioned No Country For Old Men, wrote the screenplay on spec, surprising his editors, who had expected a new novel. Deals were quickly made through the same producers who worked on The Road. This story features a lawyer who thinks he can get into the drug trade without becoming too involved.
Scott now needs to line up a cast, which will probably not prove much of a challenge, as both his and McCarthy’s names carry a lot of weight in Hollywood. If all goes well, the director will start shooting on May 1.
