Ricky Gervais is returning to the role that made him famous. Variety reports the BBC and Gervais are joining forces once again to give fans of the original Office an update on the life and times of David Brent.

Called Life on the Road, the film finds Brent struggling to become a rock star, bankrolling the endeavor with his work as a traveling salesman. Although he believes he's participating in a rockumentary, the crew is actually shooting a documentary in which they catch up on the lives of the Wernham Hogg employees.

Gervais and partner Stephen Merchant created The Office, which debuted in 2001 as a workplace mockumentary, following the employees of a paper company, including Brent, the bumbling boss who wanted to be loved and respected for his comedy and musical chops.

The series consisted of two six-episode seasons and and a Christmas special that caught up with Brent and the employees after their documentary aired. Gervais has reprised his role as Brent on several occasions since, including for a series of YouTube videos called "Learn Guitar With David Brent."

Life on the Road is expected to film next year.
