Rick Springfield Joins 'True Detective' Season 2

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Rick Springfield has joined the cast of HBO's True Detective, currently shooting its eight-episode second season in California.

No details have been released regarding the "Jessie's Girl" singer's role in the series, meaning it could range from a guest spot to a recurring or regular role.

Springfield, whose acting credits include Californication and General Hospital, tweeted about his involvement on Wednesday.

Just finished my 1st day of shooting for season 2 of HBO's True Detective. What a great script. Working w/ Colin Farrell & Rachel McAdams!

This time around, the show will focus on a trio of police officers working with a career criminal to solve a murder. Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will lead up the season, taking over from Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey. Farrell will play corrupt cop Ray Velcoro and Vaughn will antagonize him as Frank Semyon, the criminal whose attempt to go legitimate was ruined by the murder of his business partner.

Rachel McAdams stars as a second police officer, the stalwart Ani Bezzerides. Taylor Kitsch rounds out the police trio as California Highway Patrol officer Paul Woodrugh. Considering his tweet name-dropped two of the actors playing police officers, it's likely that Springfield is playing another cop.
