In 1987, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles kicked their way onto TV with their own cartoon, and just three years later they had their own live-action blockbuster playing in theaters, grossing $200 million off of a $13 million dollar budget and kicking off a franchise. If the same kind of thing had happened with Rick & Morty, fans would already have seen their favorite drunk scientist and his grandson on the big screen.

But as it stands, the only live-action Rick & Morty iterations are the two great ads that star Back to the Future's very own Doc Brown, Christopher Lloyd, as Rick. Still, fans can dream of what could be if a Rick & Morty movie was made today.

10 Peter Capaldi Was Born To Play Rick

Peter Capaldi as Rick in a Rick and Morty Movie

It was hard enough to look at Peter Capaldi and not see a little bit of Rick Sanchez as it was, but when Capaldi showed up as the Thinker in 2021's The Suicide Squad, the actor showed he had what it takes to play the role.

Capaldi certainly has Rick's quick and sharp tongue, as seen in his classic British comedy series The Thick of It, and he knows all about traveling through time and space thanks to his time playing the Doctor on Doctor Who. Just hand Capaldi a portal gun and he's ready to go.

9 Jaeden Martell Already Played Morty Once

Jaeden Martell as Morty in a Rick and Morty Movie

Christopher Lloyd didn't appear in those live-action Rick & Morty ads alone. Doing the scene with him was Jaeden Martell as the shaky-voiced Morty. Martell, best known for his work in the two It films and Knives Out, has shown that he can act really scared and isn't afraid to take on more mature content.

And anyone who saw Martell in the Rick & Morty commercials knows that the actor does a perfect live-action version of the yellow-shirted teen's catchphrase, "aw jeez." Ever since those commercials aired, fans have had trouble seeing anyone else in the role.

8 Chloë Grace Moretz Has The Snarky Skills To Play Summer

Chloë Grace Moretz would be a perfect Summer in a Rick and Morty movie

Chloë Grace Moretz came to fame at a young age for playing Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass, the film based on the comic by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr.

As she has grown up, Moretz has shown that her skills as a child actor were no fluke, and while she is older than Summer would actually be, Moretz wouldn't be the first actor in their 20s to play a teenager. Moretz has the skills to pull off the action and the jokes that would be needed to portray Summer on the big screen.

7 Sarah Chalke Is Already Beth, Why Mess Around?

Sarah Chalke plays Beth on Rick & Morty

Sarah Chalke already voices Beth on Rick & Morty, and no other actor would be able to spend as much time getting to really know the character as she has. What makes Chalke an even better fit is that she is the right age to play Beth and just happens to look a little like the animated mother.

There may be other actresses out there who could play Beth, but when the best choice has already been playing the role for years, why change it now?

6 Tobey Maguire Could Take Jerry To New Levels Of Pity

Tobey Maguire could be a great Jerry in a Rick and Morty movie

Unfortunately, Chris Parnell, who plays Jerry on Rick & Morty, is a little too old to play the role in live-action. But someone who could fill in perfectly is Tobey Maguire. After all, take Peter Parker and remove the Spider-Man powers and you pretty much have Jerry, a guy who just doesn't have the confidence in himself to make his life better.

Maguire has shown off his comedic abilities from time to time, and playing Jerry Smith could be the perfect chance for the actor to play a dad.

5 Justin Roiland Can Voice Mr. Poopybutthole

Justin Roiland as Mr. Poopybutthole

The man behind Rick & Morty, Justin Roiland also voices a number of characters, including the titular duo. Of course, Roiland isn't the right age to play either Rick or Morty, but that doesn't mean there isn't a beloved character he can lend his unquestionable skills to.

On the show, Roiland also voices the much loved Mr. Poopybutthole, and it is hard to imagine a live-action Rick & Morty movie without Mr. Poopybutthole showing up in some way. Surely Mr. Poopybutthole would be CGI, but that just means Roiland's work would be done via performance capture technology.

4 Dan Harmon Looks Like Birdperson For A Reason

Dan Harmon voices Birdperson on Rick and Morty

Dan Harmon isn't just Rick & Morty's co-creator, he also serves as the voice of a number of characters, but his most loved role is that of Birdperson.

Rick Sanchez's best—and maybe only—friend, Birdperson's journey across Rick & Morty's five seasons is one of the strangest and most touching, and while Harmon isn't known for his acting, it is hard to look at Birdperson and not see Harmon in the role. After all, they even look alike!

3 Keith David Is The Perfect President

Keith David plays President Curtis on Rick and Morty

Just like Sarah Chalke, the crew behind Rick & Morty hit it out of the park when they cast Keith David as President Curtis. David clearly has an amazing voice, but his best work is in live-action, including the films he has made with legendary director John Carpenter and Requiem for a Dream.

Anyone who saw David as Sgt. Major Donald Cody on Enlisted knows that the actor is just as great at playing comedic roles as he is in dramatic films. There's no one else who could play President Curtis.

2 Selena Gomez Can Play It Close To The Chest As Tammy Guetermann

Selena Gomez could make a great Tammy Guetermann ina Rick and Morty movie

A Rick & Morty movie that has Birdperson is also going to need someone to play Tammy Guetermann. In the series, Birdperson fell in love with Summer's friend, Tammy, and was all set to marry her, but at the wedding, it was revealed that Tammy was actually an agent for the Galactic Federation who was undercover. In the ensuing battle, Tammy killed Birdperson, breaking the hearts of many a fan.

Anyone who has watched Only Murders in the Building knows that Selena Gomez is great at playing secrets close to the chest. And now that the world knows Gomez has the comedic chops to stand her own against icons like Steve Martin and Martin Short, there is no question that she would be good enough for a Rick & Morty movie.

1 Storm Reid Has Shown She Can Do A Lot With A Little, & Jessica Will Need That

Storm Reid could be a great Jessica in a Rick and Morty movie

Storm Reid first came to the attention of the world when she starred in Ava DuVernay's A Wrinkle in Time. Reid showed audiences that even at a young age she had the acting chops to be the lead in a big-budget adventure movie, and she seemed to pull it off with ease.

In 2021's The Suicide Squad, Reid played Tyla, Bloodsport's daughter, and only appeared in two scenes. Even with such little screentime in The Suicide Squad, Reid made her moments stand out, and that kind of skill will be needed to make Morty's crush, Jessica, pop on screen.
