Fans of Rick and Morty are now calling for the animated series to be taken off the air after co-creator Dan Harmon's controversial video resurfaced, thanks to supporters of the right-wing conspiracy theory, QAnon.

Harmon's clip, titled "Daryl," was released in 2009. It sees Harmon playing the role of a paedophile psychiatrist, simulating sex with a baby doll. Harmon prefaced the clip with a warning to viewers about the content of "Daryl," which was created as parody of the Showtime series Dexter. The video has gained new attention across social media, with many decrying the creator and some using hashtags associated with the QAnon conspiracy, such as #SaveTheChildren.

The Rick and Morty co-creator has come under fire for the same video once before in recent years. It first resurfaced in 2018 and Harmon quickly offered an apology, "In 2009, I made a "pilot" which strove to parody the series Dexter and only succeeded in offending." It continued, "I quickly realized the content was way too distasteful and took the video down immediately. Nobody should ever have to see what you saw and for that, I sincerely apologize." Adult Swim issued a statement acknowledging the error in judgement, but continued to support Harmon.

QAnon is a right-wing conspiracy theory that gained popularity in 2017. It postulates that much of the world's elite, such as Hillary Clinton, form a secret organization of paedophiles, and that current president Donald Trump is acting to expose the group.
