The crazy shenanigans of Rick and Morty will continue this September.

TVLine has reported that Adult Swim will premiere Season 6 of the popular animated series will on Sept. 4. "It’s hard to overstate the impact of Rick and Morty. More than a hit show, it is truly a global phenomenon," Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim and Cartoon Network, said in a statement accompanying the announcement. "As we prepare to launch this soon-to-be iconic season, we will be giving fans a unique way to be part of the fun – so keep your eyes peeled."

Rick and Morty premiered in December 2013 on Adult Swim. The half-hour animated series primarily follows Rick Sanchez, a sociopathic genius scientist, and his grandson Morty on insanely dangerous adventures across the universe. Most episodes also involve Rick's daughter Beth, her husband Jerry and granddaughter Summer participating in Rick and Morty's intergalactic escapades. Season 6 of Rick and Morty picks up "where we left [Rick and Morty], worse for wear and down on their luck. Will they manage to bounce back for more adventures? Or will they get swept up in an ocean of piss! Who knows?! Piss! Family! Intrigue! A bunch of dinosaurs! More piss! Another can't miss season of your favorite show," reads the season's official logline.

Rick and Morty Go Anime

In addition to the upcoming sixth season, a ten-episode spinoff series titled Rick and Morty: The Anime is also expected to premiere in 2022. Takeshi Sano, who is best known for directing Tower of God, will direct the entire season. "I am honored to have been given an opportunity to tell a new story about this amazing family. I hope you enjoy their adventures!" said Sano, who is described by Adult Swim as a "Rick and Morty superfan," in a statement when the anime spinoff was first announced. Rick and Morty: The Anime is based on four anime-styled short films starring the titular characters that aired on Adult Swim's Toonami programming block between 2020 and 2021. Sano directed two of the shorts, Rick and Morty vs. Genocider and Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil), which currently have a combined total of over 10 million views on Adult Swim's digital platforms.

Created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, Rick and Morty features an ensemble voice cast led by Roiland, Sarah Chalke, Chris Parnell and Spencer Grammer. Season 6 premieres on Adult Swim on Sept. 4 at 11 p.m. ET/PT.
