Rick and Morty plan to treat its legions of viewers to a spooky claymation short in celebration of Halloween.

The Cartoon Network animated science-fiction TV series will release its new short, "Summer Sleepover," on Oct. 30. at midnight ET/PT on Adult Swim. British animation and claymation filmmaker Lee Hardcastle, best known for the 2012 comedy horror anthology film, The ABCs of Death, created the Rick and Morty short. In "Summer Sleepover," an unexpected guest brings life to Summer Smith's sleepover party.

The claymation short marks the second time that Hardcastle has worked on Rick and Morty, having done the series' Hereditary spoof that premiered prior to the airing of Season Five. The July 2021 claymation film paid specific tribute to Charlie’s death scene from Hereditary. It is available to watch on the Swimpedia YouTube channel.

Two More Seasons of Rick and Morty Are in the Works

Additionally, the Halloween-themed short comes a few weeks before the return of Season 6 of Rick and Morty, scheduled to begin airing on Nov. 20. Adult Swim announced its hiatus on Oct. 10 in a tweet, encouraging their fans to expand their minds ahead of its comeback. Fans were not given a definitive reason for the hiatus, which came after the show’s most recent episode, “Juricksic Mort,” aired on Oct. 9. However, fans shouldn't worry about its future considering that the show's producers, James Siciliano and Scott Marder, confirmed they're working on two more seasons of Rick and Morty, with around 20 episodes currently in production. Season 6 began airing on Sep. 4, 2022.
