Rick, Morty, Summer, Jerry and Beth are all entering the Lovecraft Dimension to fight Cthulhu in a CBR exclusive preview of Rick and Morty vs Cthulhu.

Rick and Morty vs Cthulhu is a new four-part miniseries published by Oni-Lion Forge Publishing Group in collaboration with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Adult Swim. The first chapter, Rick and Morty vs. Cthulhu Part 1: The Whisperer in the Dorkness, releases Dec. 7 from writer Jim Zub, illustrator Troy Little, colorist Leonardo Ito and letter Crank! The official description reads, "What could be worse than an off-planet sugar deal gone wrong? Tripping through a Lovecraftian hellscape with the Smith family as they fight, uh, cosmic sentient color and racist fish-people? That can't be right…Welcome to the Rick Sanchez School of Actually Getting S**t Done! And that poor bastard Jerry declares 'everything smells like cinnamon and sorrow' in this Lovecraftian epic."

The Sanchez Family Heads to the Lovecraft Dimension

The preview for Rick and Morty vs. Cthulhu Part 1: The Whisperer in the Dorkness shows Rick warning his family of an "infestation" that has taken hold of their house. He continues to explain that Cthulhu, a villain who has long appeared in the opening credits to Ricky and Morty (a "Baby Cthulhu" has also appeared in the show's closing credits), has polluted the Sanchez's home with "mythos molecules." The only way to deal with the problem, Rick suggests, is to head somewhere called the Lovecraft Dimension." After dressing up some new gear and picking up some age-appropriate weapons, the family steps through a portal taking them to said dimension, where they then stumble upon the water well from Lovecrafts' The Colour Out of Space short story from 1927.

"Lovecraft horror has stuck around for decades because it asks important questions like 'Does humanity matter in the face of an unfeeling unknowable universe?" Zub previously said of Rick and Morty vs. Cthulhu. "Rick and Morty asks equally pertinent questions about ourselves, our existence, and the jerks who create our pop culture, so I figured it was time to peanut butter that chocolate and take a big bite."

Little added, "… If you are reading this, I’ve already succumbed to the madness. As a comic artist, I believed I had some innate ability to cope with insanity, but the depths of the horror I have been forced to illustrate have tested my very limits. I only hope that this warning reaches you in time. If you have access to a portal gun, do not hesitate to flee into any other dimension."

Rick and Morty vs. Cthulhu Part 1: The Whisperer in the Dorkness features cover art by Little and variant cover art by Zub, Zander Cannon, Marc Ellerby, Julieta Colás and Ryan Lee. The issue releases on Dec. 7.
