Netflix has announced a "Richie Rich" live-action series, slated to debut exclusively on the streaming service in early 2015. Child actor Jake Brennan -- who had a small role as "Camper #4" last year on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." -- will star in the 21-episode series.

According to the official release, this "Richie Rich" will be a self-made success, with the character "making a trillion dollars by inventing and selling a cool new green technology," and then embarking on "the most awesome life ever." That awesome life will evidently include, "exploring Antarctica, making a movie with his friends and meeting famous celebrities." Along with Brennan, the cast is rounded out by Joshua Carlon, Jenna Ortega, Lauren Taylor, Kiff VandenHeuvel and Brooke Wexler; whose roles were not specified.

One of the most famous characters introduced by the defunct Harvey Comics, Richie Rich was created by Alfred Harvey and Warren Kremer, and debuted in 1953's "Little Dot" #1. The character has starred in multiple series over the decades, with the most recent releases from Ape Entertainment in 2011 and 2012.

In 1994, Macaulay Culkin starred in a live-action "Richie Rich" film, which was both a critical and financial disappointment, and the popular child actor's last film for nine years. The character has also been featured in multiple animated series.

"Richie Rich" hails from AwesomenessTV, a production company and YouTube channel co-founded by Brian Robbins, who worked as a producer on "Smallville." The series will be available to Netflix users in the US, Canada and Latin America.
