Over his long career, director Richard Donner has put his stamp on the Superman legend with the first and second films starring Christopher Reeve and helming all four of the Lethal Weapon movies. At 90, he plans to wrap his career with the long-in-coming fifth installment.

"This is the final one. It's both my privilege and duty to put it to bed," Donner told The Telegraph about Lethal Weapon 5. "It's exciting, actually."

Donner also is producing Lethal Weapon 5 as well, which will end the series. "Hahaha! It's the last one, I'll promise you that," he said.

Lethal Weapon 5 reunites Donner with stars Danny Glover and Mel Gibson, who played Los Angeles Police detective sergeants Roger Murtaugh and Martin Riggs in the previous four films, in 1987, 1989, 1992 and 1998. Murtaugh is a family man on the cusp of retirement, and Riggs is a volatile troublemaker who frequently gets the pair involved in elaborate cases that result in lots of mayhem and property damage. The film series was adapted into a TV show on Fox from 2016 to 2019 starring Damon Wayans as Murtaugh and Clayne Crawford as Riggs.

Donner's filmography also includes directing The Omen, The GooniesScrooged and Maverick, and executive producing the X-Men series.
