Star Wars' Rian Johnson trilogy was first announced back in 2017 before the premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which he wrote and directed. Details about the trilogy remain scarce, but it will be separate from the Skywalker Saga. A previous rumor hinted at the first film of Johnson's trilogy debuting after the yet untitled Star Wars film being co-written and directed by Taika Waititi (Thor: Love and Thunder), which is slated for a 2024 premiere date.

Johnson is currently developing a sequel to his mystery film Knives Out. Written and directed by Johnson, Knives Out featured gentleman sleuth Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) investigating the family of the late novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) following Thrombey's death.
