Reynolds & Garfield Kiss Gives Spideypool Fans What They Want

Last night during the Golden Globe awards, millions of viewers were slyly introduced to one of comics’ most passionate fandoms: Spideypool. While Ryan Gosling walked to the stage to accept his award for Best Performance By An Actor In A Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, Ryan Reynolds sought comforted in his moment of loss in his table-mate Andrew Garfield. Eagle-eyed viewers noticed the two’s lip-lock in the background. Just in case you missed it, here’s video and a GIF.

This kiss can be viewed as more than just a kiss, of course. After all, Ryan Reynolds was nominated for his performance in “Deadpool” and Garfield previously played Spider-Man in 2012 and 2014’s “Amazing Spider-Man” films. This was pretty much Deadpool and Spider-Man kissing on live national television. Considering that Wade and Spidey have become one of the most popular ships in comics over the past few years, this moment didn’t just slip by in the background. It’s something many comic book fans have wanted to see for a long time — especially in the pages of “Spider-Man/Deadpool,” the comic this pair shares. You can track the reaction on Twitter, which has led to a number of solid responses.
