20th Century Fox has shaken up the release dates for three of the studio's upcoming X-Men-centric films, with The New Mutants being delayed 10 months, Gambit being delayed 6 months, and Deadpool 2 actually being bumped up two weeks. Taking to Twitter, Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds celebrated the sequel's new May 18 release date, and in doing so, may have also provided a hint about the film's official title.
Reynolds posted a photo of the Merc with a Mouth's quintessential twin katanas, which are appropriately branded in honor of the character's favorite Golden Girls actress Bea Arthur. However, it's "#MaximumEffort," a mantra he drops several times in the first film, that's fueling speculation that perhaps this may be Deadpool 2's intended title.
It's worth noting that Fox still lists the upcoming film as The Untitled Deadpool Sequel, rather than Deadpool 2, so it's entirely possible that Deadpool: Maximum Effort could be revealed as the title once marketing begins to ramp up. Then again, The Untitled Deadpool Sequel would actually be a fitting title in its own right, considering Deadpool's tendency to constantly break the fourth wall.
Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 features Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Karan Soni as Dopinder, with newcomers Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable, Julian Dennison in an unknown role, and Jack Kesy as a villain widely thought to be Black Tom Cassidy. The film hits theaters on May 18.
