The aftermath of DC's Trial of the Amazons event has left Themyscira in ruins and given Wonder Woman a lot to think about. But, before Diana can process everything she's been through, a new adventure begins in Becky Cloonan, Michael W. Conrad, Emanuela Lupacchino and Wade von Grawbadger's Wonder Woman #787, a fun exciting new issue that sets the stage for an intriguing story.

Wonder Woman #787 follows Diana as she leaves Themyscira for one final confrontation with Altuum. She uses her iconic lasso to finally get a straight answer out of the deluded character and heads home to reunite with Etta, Steve and Siegfried, who are currently investigating the nefarious Dr. Cizko, also known as Dr. Psycho. Cizko's popular web show is gaining traction and he seems to have some heinous plans in store for Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman talks with Nubia

Conrad and Cloonan have constructed a great bridge between the Trial of the Amazons event and their new arc. By having Diana confront Altuum, they bring everything back full circle to her first meeting with him in Wonder Woman 2021 Annual and end the saga on an appropriately melancholy note. As Diana arrives home, the tone becomes more upbeat, but Conrad and Cloonan make it clear that the hero is still reeling from everything that transpired on Themyscira. So seeing Cizko publicly belittle her on his show is particularly painful in the context of her interaction with Altuum.

Penciler Emanuela Lupacchino and inker Wade von Grawbadge's art perfectly complements Conrad and Cloonan's writing. They bring an unparalleled excitement and energy to each page. The scene where Wonder Woman tears through Altuum's ship is particularly striking. As brief as their battle is, it is perfectly choreographed and beautifully rendered to pack a huge emotional punch. Lupacchino and von Grawbadge are equally at home drawing slower-paced conversations, capturing each important facial expression to help the audience identify with Diana. Colorist Tamra Bonvillain helps take the story from a gloomy underwater ship to a bright, hopeful Metropolis. Her shifting colors help to capture the tone of each setting and to highlight the strength of Lupacchino and von Grawbadge's artwork.
