The latest playable character for Streets of Rage 4 has been revealed.
A new trailer places the focus on Kempo master Shiva, who uses his martial arts skills to dispatch hordes of enemies. "I don't need weapons. I AM the weapon," Shiva boasts. Shiva is the third unlockable character in the "Mr. X Nightmare" DLC for Streets of Rage 4, alongside Special Forces officer Estel Aguirre and the massive Max Thunder.
Shiva made his debut in the Streets of Rage franchise in Streets of Rage 2, as the right-hand man of crime lord Mr. X. He serves as a boss in Streets of Rage 2 and its sequel Streets of Rage 3, where he became a playable character after being defeated in a boss fight. Shiva also has an ongoing rivalry with Streets of Rage's protagonist Axel Stone.
Streets of Rage 4 takes place 10 years after the events of Streets of Rage 3 and finds Axel Stone joining forces with his allies to stop the rise of the Y Syndicate. The "Mr. X Nightmare" DLC, in addition to new playable characters, introduces the new Survival mode with weekly challenges to test players. New weapons and stages are also included in the DLC, along with new musical tracks.
Developed by Dotemu, Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games and published by Dotemu, Streets of Rage 4 is available now for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The Mr. X Nightmare Mode DLC will be released sometime this year.
