A job posting from Respawn Entertainment hinted at possible multiplayer gameplay elements in its upcoming Star Wars first-person shooter video game.

Video game publisher EA posted a job advertisement that might have unintentionally revealed plans to add multiplayer features to its unnamed Star Wars FPS title. The job posting advertised an opening in Respawn Entertainment for the role of Senior Gameplay Software Engineer, who would be assigned to work on the company's "Star Wars FPS team." The advertisement also revealed the studio will prioritize applicants with several supplementary qualifications, which notably included prior experience in developing multiplayer video games. However, that specific criterion was reportedly expunged from the listing sometime after it was posted.

What We Know About the Star Wars FPS

Respawn Entertainment's unnamed Star Wars FPS project was unveiled back in 2022, with developers announcing that the title will be built on Unreal Engine 5. Respawn additionally revealed the project will be helmed by game director Peter Hirschmann, who previously worked on several video games set in the Star Wars universe, such as 2004's critically acclaimed Star Wars: Battlefront and its beloved sequel Star Wars: Battlefront II. Regarding the upcoming Star Wars title, Hirschmann said, "Working with Lucasfilm Games on a new FPS in the Star Wars galaxy is a dream come true for me, as this is a story I have always wanted to tell."

More Star Wars Projects

In addition to a first-person shooter, Respawn Entertainment announced it was developing a real-time strategy title for the Star Wars franchise. Respawn revealed that the Star Wars RTS will be produced in cooperation with strategy game studio developer Bit Reactor, with CEO and founder Greg Foertsch leading the development of the project. The developer is also busy preparing for the early 2023 debut of the highly anticipated Star Wars Jedi: Survivor -- the sequel to Respawn Entertainment's hit 2019 action-adventure video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Actor Cameron Monaghan, who provides the voice and likeness of series protagonist Cal Kestis, previously claimed that the sequel will push the young Jedi to his breaking point. "We have a really interesting story with Cal where he's faced with challenges that are difficult and there's not necessarily any right answers and it's something that I always really wanted to explore with the character," Monaghan said.

Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars FPS and RTS have yet to receive official release dates. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is scheduled for release on March 17 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
