Some of the most powerful beings in Legends are in possession of special natural or artificial protective wear that can mean the difference between life and death. Here are the 10 most resilient types of armor in Star Wars, which provide their wearers with undeniable superiority in battle.

10 Durasteel

Extremely popular across the galaxy, this special alloy was a resilient mix made of 6 other strong substances, and its positive effects were numerous - from heat-resistance to protection from sub-zero freezing temperatures.

It was extremely thin and comfortable to wear, and allowed even severely injured individuals to go through considerable physical strain unbothered. Legendary warriors such as General Grievous and Darth Vader built their armor and to a certain degree - their bodies with it.

9 Sith Alchemy Armor

One of the many mysterious forces, which the Dark Lords of the Sith were in control of was their unique alchemy that gave them a number of advantages over their opponents such as upgraded armor.

The owners of such protective wear could push the limits of their Dark Side capabilities, just like in the case of the helmet of the Prophet of the Dark Side Cronal or the armor of the legendary alchemist Naga Shadow.

8 Zillo Beast Armor

Capable of neutralizing blaster shots but also being explosion-resistant, and not to mention lightsaber-proof, the natural armor of the Zillo Beast makes it a species to be feared.

One of the largest land monsters in the expanded universe, this creature has given quite a lot of trouble to many powerful Jedi and Sith. The armor does have a weak spot that makes the mighty reptile vulnerable, but very few warriors were capable of striking it before getting themselves killed.

7 Ultrachrome

Ultrachrome was mostly used for starship protection during the time of the Great Sith War. On rare occasions, its highly productive uses were taken advantage of by certain warriors to craft armor for close combat.

Kar Vastor made his vibroshields from this exact metal, and the Imperial Inquisitors chose it as their personal protective covering. It could withstand all kinds of attacks - blasters, explosive chemicals, heavy projectiles, lightsabers, even metal-corroding parasites.

6 Vonduun Crab Armor

What makes this type of armor unique was the fact that it can technically be considered a living being. Made out of the eponymous organism, this type of protection could not only deflect various types of damage (lightsaber, blaster, slugthrowers) but it was also capable of enhancing the physical power of the wearer.

Vonduun Crab armor was unusually light, which allowed warriors to be faster and more agile and its spiked design was easy to weaponize.

5 Orbalisk Armor

An even more terrifying type of armor is the Orbalisk. It is composed entirely out of living parasites, which once attached to the body were able to draw strength from the dark side of the Force and cover the wearer with their near-impenetrable shells.

Only a couple of the most powerful Sith in history used this type of protection such as Darth Bane and Freedon Nadd. Furthermore, orbalisks empower the beings they infect granting them special healing powers as well as upgraded strength and speed, among many other abilities.

4 Dark Trooper Phrik Armor

The Dark Troopers were some of the most advanced battle droids that fought on the side of the Empire and created to counter their Jedi rivals. They relied not just on powerful weaponry, but on some of the finest armor in known existence.

Its Phrik material was mined on a single planet and it offered complete protection from any kind of enemy fire, and even lightsabers. Additionally, the armor could positively affect the soldier's body, allowing it to survive physically taxing feats.

3 Mandalorian Armor - Beskar

The most popular of the Mandalorians' lethal tools that they used to wage wars against their enemies was their highly efficient and gorgeous to behold armor.

Beskar was a special kind of iron with an extraordinary level of endurance, and it could only be harvested on the legendary warriors' homeworld - Mandalore. One of the most precious and reputable types of armor in the whole galaxy, it could hold out against numerous kinds of attacks

2 Cortosis-Weave Armor

Jedi and Sith's least preferred foes were the ones that relied on the services of the Cortosis-Weave Armor, because in many ways it was designed to resist and even shut down lightsabers. The ore cortosis' most popular ability was to create a special energy loop that successfully de-activated the legendary and otherwise extremely feared weapon.

More contemporary types of armor only featured traces of the ore, so lightsabers who struck it could still work, despite not being able to penetrate it.

1 Quantum-Crystalline Armor

Used exclusively for ships and buildings, the Quantum-Crystalline is the most resilient armor in the history of the galaxy. It was specifically designed for the Sun Crusher ship - one of the most powerful weapons of mass destruction ever created, and it could famously withstand the blast of a supernova.

The fact that Han Solo rammed the Sun Crasher through an Imperial destroyer and the scoundrel's ship was left completely undamaged is just one example of its formidable qualities. A ship with such armor could've certainly come in handy to Admiral Holdo from The Last Jedi.
