The release date for Sony Pictures' Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City has been shifted by two months.

Instead of premiering on Sept. 3, the reboot of the Resident Evil film franchise will now arrive on Wednesday, Nov. 24, which is one day before Thanksgiving. The two-month change may also allow more theaters to be open at a larger capacity while coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions are lifted around the country.

The official title for the new Resident Evil was revealed by Constantin Film and director Johannes Roberts at the SXSW: Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City panel. Before that, the first poster for Resident Evil was also unveiled, featuring the Resident Evil title in the center of the image in a black-and-white font against a red background.

There are several Resident Evil projects currently in different stages of development. Netflix has dual Resident Evil streaming series in the works, with a live-action Resident Evil series spanning two different timelines, and an anime adaptation titled Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness.
