Compared to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, returning protagonist Ethan Winters has a whole array of weaponry to choose from in Resident Evil Village to defend himself from all the monsters that populate the survival horror game. The Rifle class of armaments stand head and shoulders above most with their high damage output, but the limited selection gives players pause before going wild with them.

It's easy to miss some of those rifles, and those upgrades can take a lot of planning. Completing the game gives players access to purchase different weapons for future playthroughs, with one coming with a full list of upgrades to further hone its lethal capabilities. Here's a full list of the rifles, how to get them and how to upgrade them.

The most notable, the F2 Sniper Rifle, is found in the attic of Castle Dimitrescu, right before Ethan ventures onto the rooftops of the castle and confronts winged creatures flying above menacingly. Keep in mind the F2 only comes with a handful of ammunition, with additional rounds relatively scarce compared to handgun ammo and shotgun shells. Accordingly, Ethan should only use the F2 sparingly, sticking mainly to the pistol as he confronts the winged monsters when they get relatively close. The F2 should realistically be saved to use against Lady Dimitrescu herself in the final battle in the castle and, even then, only when she flies away from the tower where the fight takes place to confront Ethan at a distance.

After completing Castle Dimitrescu, Ethan immediately has access to two different upgrades immediately available for purchase through the Duke. Located at the Duke's location by the ritual site where Ethan installs the flasks containing dismembered parts of his own infant daughter, Ethan can purchase the F2's cheek rest to reduce the amount of sway while he's taking aim and the high magnification scope to greatly increase the amount Ethan can zoom in on a target while aiming. After clearing out House Beneviuto, return to Luthier's house southeast of the Maiden of War statue and obtain the date from a children's drawing on the wall (120917) and enter it in the combination lock on the armoire to obtain the high-capacity magazine to increase the amount of bullets Ethan can load into the F2 from four at a time to nine. Following Castle Dimitrescu, the F2 especially comes in handy when dealing with the slow-moving sub-bosses around the hub, targeting their weak points and the lit targets inside Heisenberg's Factory and the subsequent battle against Karl Heisenberg himself.

Then there's the matter of upgrades into the damage output, reload speed, etc., from the Duke himself to the F2. The only sniper rifle acquired in the initial playthrough, the F2 is something a safe bet to upgrade compared to the variety of pistols and shotguns Ethan acquires. Initially, the F2 inflicts a base damage of 600 and, with the Duke progressively selling higher outputs as the game continues, a fully-maxed out F2 can inflict a staggering 1500 damage per shot. There are five levels of upgrades, costing 9K, 15K, 29K, 41K and 60K lei to reach this status. At its base, the F2 can fire off a shot every two seconds and, fully upgraded; it can fire a shot every 1.2 seconds; these upgrades cost 4K, 8K, 17K, 26K and 39K lei.

As a bolt-action rifle, the F2 takes 3.7 seconds at base to reload and 2.7 seconds once fully upgraded. These upgrades cost 5.5K, 10K, 21K, 33K and 45K lei that the Duke offers from his initial set in Castle Dimitrescu to the ritual site. And then there's the matter of the upgrades to ammo capacity. With the high-capacity magazine, Ethan can load nine rounds into his rifle at base; fully upgraded, it can hold up to 20; these upgrades cost 7K, 11K, 23K, 35K and 50K lei. This means purchasing all of the Duke's upgrades for the F2 would cost Ethan 488.5K in lei; be sure to collect those crystal skulls!

Regarding weapons available after completing the game in subsequent playthroughs, there is an assault rifle, using its own ammo, and a handgun that uses the same ammo as the F2. The Dragoon is the machine gun Chris Redfield uses towards the end of Resident Evil Village as he ventures into ground zero for himself to plant the explosives to destroy the mutamycete mold. Players can purchase the Dragoon for 30K challenge points, with 50K additional challenge points to unlock infinite ammo for it; there are no upgrades or modifications available for it from the Duke over the course of the game.

The second weapon -- and the only other weapon in the game to use the same ammo as the F2 -- is the Handcannon PZ. Purchasable after completing the game for 60K challenge points, the long-barreled revolver has an ammo cap at five rounds at once; there are no tangible upgrades that can be modified to it, and it is weaker than the magnum at its base level, but the higher abundance of sniper rifle bullets makes it handier. The Handcannon's base damage output is 1400 and can be upgraded by the Duke for up to 3200; upgrades cost 68K, 81K, 94K, 115K and 140K lei. The Handcannon can fire a shot every 1.6 seconds at base and be upgraded to a shot every .9 seconds; upgrades cost 25K, 34K, 48K, 62K and 77K lei. The Handcannon takes 2.8 seconds to reload and can be upgraded to reload as quickly as 1.8 seconds; the upgrades cost 28K, 37K, 51K, 65K, and 80K lei. This means a fully upgraded Handcannon costs over one million lei when it's all said and done, over twice as much as fully upgrading the F2.

Developed and published by Capcom, Resident Evil Village is available now for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC and Google Stadia.
