A new addition to Resident Evil Village announced at Capcom Showcase will bring long-awaited features like a third-person mode alongside the ability to play as everyone's favorite 9-foot tall vampire, Lady Dimitrescu.

Resident Evil Village: Gold Edition will act as an expansion to the original game, allowing players to experience the story from a third-person perspective. It will also introduce new characters for The Mercenaries, including fan favorites Lady Dimitrescu, Chris Redfield and Karl Heisenberg.

The Mercenaries is the arcade shooter mode included in Resident Evil Village. At release, the score-chasing minigame had only one playable character, protagonist Ethan Winters. Gold Edition, a major expansion to Village, will bring a host of new playable characters with their own gameplay differences into the fold. Perhaps the most notable of these is Lady Dimitrescu, the 9-foot tall vampire.

Lady Dimitrescu has been beloved by audiences, for completely normal and chaste reasons, since her reveal in the very first trailer for the game. Some Resident Evil Village fans were annoyed to discover that Dimitrescu only appears in a very brief portion of the game before Ethan Winters does what he does best and kills her in an extravagant boss fight. Dimitrescu's new status as a playable character in The Mercenaries will come as a pleasant surprise to many. She's joined by long-time series protagonist Chris Redfield and fellow Village antagonist Karl Heisenberg, who will each be introduced to The Mercenaries in Resident Evil Village: Gold Edition.

As for the new third-person mode, Resident Evil Village is one of only two mainline Resident Evil games to feature a first-person perspective. Resident Evil VII: Biohazard introduced the new angle to the series and Village ran with the ball, leaving third-person cameras to the ever-growing line of Resident Evil remakes. The new option will give Village a more classical feel by mimicking the over-the-shoulder third-person camera angle that's been standard for the series since Resident Evil 4. While third-person action may not seem like a massive shift, it will mark the first time that players can actually look at Ethan Winters while playing as him.

Resident Evil Village is currently available on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft Windows, macOS and Google Stadia. Resident Evil Village: Gold Edition, complete with its third-person mode and new playable characters, will release on all platforms on October 28, 2022, just in time for Halloween.
