The first poster for Sony Pictures' reboot of the Resident Evil film franchise has been released.

As for the actual movie poster, it has the Resident Evil title in the center of the image in a black-and-white font. The location is a dark forest with a blood-red background as the names of the film's stars from the video game franchise are scattered throughout. We get names for Jill Valentine, Chief Irons, Albert Wesker, Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Chris Redfield, Richard Aiken, Ada Wong, Brad Vickers and William Birkin. Johannes Roberts, the director of Resident Evil, is also featured, as is the film's release date of Sept. 3.

Resident Evil secured its release date at the beginning of February, as the reboot serves as an origin story for the popular video game franchise, which takes place on a fateful night in Raccoon City in 1998. The previous six Resident Evil movies have generated a total worldwide theatrical box office of $1.2 billion.

There are several Resident Evil projects currently in different stages of development. Netflix has dual Resident Evil streaming series in the works, with a live-action series spanning two different timelines, and an anime adaptation titled Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness.

Written and directed by Johannes Robert, Resident Evil stars Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine and Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield. The film also includes Tom Hopper, Avan Jogia, Neal McDonough, Donal Logue, Chad Rook and Lily Gao. Released by Constantin Films, the movie arrives in theaters Sept. 3.
