The Resident Evil franchise has created some of the most iconic monsters and mutants in video game history. Out of all of its creations, none measure up to the iconic Nemesis T-Type, also known as The Pursuer. The mutant is a creation spawned from the Nemesis Alpha parasite. It's gargantuan in size and has immense strength, and carries with it a massive gun on one arm. Of the ten commands it's capable of following, its most important one is to eliminate the remaining members of the Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.).

S.T.A.R.S. was created by the Raccoon City Police Department and is a task force comprised of soldiers and scientists to deal with emergencies like dangerous urban crime situations. Their mission eventually leads them to the mansion from the first Resident Evil game. While there, most of S.T.A.R.S. is killed but not before killing the T-002 Tyrant, a massive and deadly mutant. This project was of special interest to the Umbrella Corporation who never stopped researching new ways to maximize their profit by creating deadly bioweapons.

Not long after the events of Resident Evil, the Raccoon City outbreak began, leaving surviving S.T.A.R.S. members Jill Valentine and Brad Vickers in a whole new warzone. For the Umbrella Corporation, this was an opportunity to work on some of their top-secret projects. This included testing out their new Bio-Organic Weapons known as Hunters and releasing the Nemesis T-Type on the city.

The mutant wants to kill the S.T.A.R.S. members because Umbrella wanted vengeance after they destroyed their T-002 project. While most of the company's schemes are more calculated, this one was strictly for personal reasons. Jill's struggle to escape the Pursuer is the backbone of Resident Evil 3 as it constantly stalks her at every turn. The remake makes it even more terrifying by allowing the Pursuer to roam in close proximity to Jill, making his appearances unpredictable.

While Brad dies after being bitten by a zombie, Jill remains in the Pursuer's sights until the climax of Resident Evil 3. Their chase ends in a facility where Valentine uses all of her resources to kill the mutant once and for all. After it mutates into an even more massive creature, conventional weapons don't work against it. Instead, Jill uses an experimental railgun known as the FINGeR to blast a hole through its body (and a few walls), killing the Pursuer for good.

Not only is the terrifying mutant one of the most recognizable enemies in Resident Evil, but it also represents just how petty and conniving the Umbrella Corporation is. Because one of their experimental mutants was killed, they sent in an even more powerful one to clean up any loose ends. The Nemesis T-Type was just a glimpse at the future horrors that would come from the company and its competition. But while there are much stronger mutants, none can match the terror and excitement created by the Pursuer.
