The 15-year-old “Resident Evil” film series draws to a close in January with “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter,” an ending underscored not only by the title but also this new motion poster from Sony Pictures.
The image depicts franchise protagonist Alice, played by Milla Jovovich, as her body is slowly consumed by flames and turns to ash, which bloats away. The text reads, “My name is Alice. This is the end of my story.”

“Resident Evil” follows Alice as she fights against the evil Umbrella Corporation and their bioweapons research. The films loosely incorporate some thematic elements and characters from the “Resident Evil” games, but mostly follow their own plot. This final film in the series will see Alice, joined by the allies she gained throughout the course of the story, return to Raccoon City for an ultimate showdown with Umbrella Corporation.
Despite repeated negative reviews, “Resident Evil” remains the highest-grossing video game film of all time. It’s also the longest-running, and could continue past “The Final Chapter,” as there are plans for a reboot.
Also starring Ali Larter, Shawn Roberts, Iain Glen, William Levy and Ruby Rose, “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” opens Jan. 27 in North America.
