Netflix recently shared more stills from its upcoming anime, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, an original series that's in canon with Capcom's popular survival horror gaming franchise.The photos were shared on Twitter, with the quote, "When biohazards run wild, only a pair of veteran zombie slayers can get the job done."
The new horror anime plans to debut globally in 2021, exclusively on Netflix's streaming service. In a prior press release, Netflix confirmed that the horror series takes place three years after 2017's CG-animated film Resident Evil: Vendetta. It will center on Resident Evil 2's protagonists Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, tossing them into the world of animated storytelling once again, but this time with more action.
"By adding suspense into dynamic action scenes, this series will reveal a Resident Evil world unlike anything seen before," Netflix added, seemingly telling viewers that the show will lean more into mystery and adventure than necessarily just running for survival. The series will be conducted in Japanese.
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness will be produced and supervised by Capcom's Hiroyuki Kobayashi, who has brought numerous titles in the Resident Evil series into existence. TMS Entertainment, which has birthed various anime series, will produce the series, while Quebico, led by Kei Miyamoto, the producer of Resident Evil: Vendetta, will be in charge of the full 3DCG animation production.
No release date is announced for the anime, however, it seems likely to debut close to when Capcom's newest Resident Evil game is released. Developed by Capcom, Resident Evil VIII: Village will be released for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Steam in 2021.
Resident Evil fans will also have an upcoming live-action television series to look forward to as well. Although no release date has been announced yet either for the live-action series, it's confirmed that the series will also air exclusively on Netflix and its first season will have eight episodes, each one hour long. Supernatural's Andrew Dabb signed on to be its showrunner in August.
Unlike Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, the live-action series will focus on two different timelines within Raccoon City. The first arc will focus on following sisters Jade and Billie Wesker when they first move to Raccoon City. The second timeline will jump a decade into the future when 15 million people are left on Earth.
