After many rumors and a lengthy wait, Resident Evil 4 is getting its own full remake releasing early next year. Although details are light at the moment, the announcement, which opened PlayStation's most recent State of Play was one that stole the entire show. However, for others, it also only raised one vital question: How accurate will this remake will be?
Although Capcom received praise for 2019's Resident Evil 2 remake, Resident Evil 3's was much less revered for making major cuts, changing gameplay mechanics, and even many of the game's weapons. Resident Evil 4 is iconic not just for its memorable gameplay, but all the trappings that surround it. This includes its impressive arsenal of weapons, many of which are among the most fun to use in the entire series. With the remake on the way, here are four weapons that absolutely need to make the cut.
Killer7 Magnum
Resident Evil 4's arsenal is so impressive that it gives players a choice between not one, but two ultra-powerful magnum pistols that can be acquired during the lengthy campaign. However, although the revolver Broken Butterfly can be acquired first, players need to toss it to the side when the Killer7 becomes available.
This .45 caliber pistol, with a name that is obviously a nod to the Capcom published bizarre masterpiece Killer 7, is an absolute cannon, able to shred most bosses in the game without even reloading its magazine. Once fully upgraded, this pistol will make players feel a lot safer, as it can quickly dispatch even the most powerful enemies with one or two shots, making it a vital part of protagonist Leon Kennedy's arsenal.
Striker Shotgun
Like the Killer7, the Striker Shotgun is the ultimate shotgun Leon can acquire in the game, and it's one players should focus all of Leon's hard-earned money on upgrading. In a game that is as much about inventory management as it is firepower, the Striker is a compact beast that won't take up too much space while simultaneously delivering hot lead efficiently.
Although it can only be fired from the hip, this drum-fed shotgun can be upgraded fully to hold 100 shells in its magazine, making reloading nonexistent. For sheer ability to lay down a wall of nonstop firepower, few weapons hold a candle to this futuristic-looking shotgun, and it absolutely needs to return for the remake.
Red9 Handgun
When it comes to small arms, few Resident Evil games deliver the kind of choice Leon has in RE4, and while all the handguns are worthy, one stands far and above the competition: the Red9. Although it may get its design from a century-old pistol, this weapon combines great power, quick reloads, and one of the coolest features in the game: a full wooden stock to help with accuracy.
The Red9 doesn't just look great; it's the best way to use handgun bullets. It has also become one of the Resident Evil series' most iconic handguns due to its appearance alone. Throughout the entire series, the handgun is always its most reliable workhorse damage dealer, and the Red9 is one of the best that has ever been featured.
Chicago Typewriter
For most fans, it wouldn't be a true Resident Evil game without unlockable weaponry. Luckily, Resident Evil 4 delivers in the form of an unlockable Thompson submachine gun that is arguably the best weapon in the game. Deliberately overpowered, this weapon is everything an unlockable secret weapon should be. It's able to drop regular enemies in one or two shots and decimate entire crowds of foes in an instant. Where its predecessors often offered a rocket launcher or infinite ammo rewards after completing the game, RE4 took things up a notch and delivered this incredibly fun weapon on top of its numerous other bonus rewards.
The Typewriter comes equipped with infinite ammo and can be used in all the game's bonus side-story modes like Separate Ways and Assignment: Ada. The Resident Evil end-game weapons are always designed to break the game's difficulty, allowing players to breeze through sections that once may have posed a real challenge, and the Chicago Typewriter lives up to this mantra and then some.
