The following contains spoilers for Resident Alien Season 2, Episode 14, "Cat and Mouse," which debuted Wednesday, Sept. 14 on SyFy.

Resident Alien has made it difficult for Harry to make friends. Asta still doesn't trust him despite his affection for her, which has caused major problems in Season 2. Harry's shady behavior also left quirky kids Max and Sahar skeptical of his intentions toward both the town of Patience and Earth. But while Asta at least appreciates Harry's effort and Sahar seemingly bonded with Harry when they tried to rescue the kidnapped alien baby, Max has remained a question mark.

Max never had any interest in helping Harry -- not unless there was a bribe involved. Fans constantly wondered if he'd keep quiet about being able to see Harry's alien identity. But in Season 2, Episode 14, "Cat and Mouse," Max finally came over to Harry's side when he tried to prevent him from being killed.

Peter Bach, the alien tracker, returned to Patience in the episode. Season 1, Episode 9, "Welcome Aliens" painted Bach in a tragic light because aliens had abducted his child, which resulted in Bach feuding with Harry at UFO Con in New Mexico decades later. Harry had stolen Bach's tech, which would have helped him find his child if the Greys returned. Bach never forgave Harry and wanted him exposed.

Bach eventually made his way to Patience using his own natural ability to see through Harry's shape-shifting disguise. His arrival led to a brief scuffle, but Harry was able to escape. He later chided Max after seeing Max and Bach together -- but Harry didn't know that Max had refused to help Bach. When the tracker snuck into Harry's lakeside cabin and tried to shock him with a cattle prod, he found the bed empty because Harry and Max had laid a trap off-screen. They tased Bach to end the episode, and changed Resident Alien massively.

Harry has a chance to show both characters how much he's changed. Now that Harry understands the pain of losing a child, he could unite with Bach to help save Earth. This might even give Bach a shot at finding his lost baby, which would make an unlikely alliance between the two worthwhile. With Sahar and now Max believing his humanity, Harry now has the allies he's been needing just in time to rescue the baby alien.

Harry can then get the clues his time-traveling self left behind in order to stop the Greys' intended apocalypse. This is a major step forward for Resident Alien as the characters of Harry and Max have amazing comedic chemistry. They're now also going to have a greater purpose as partners in saving humanity. Hopefully Bach will also sign up for the mission that's bigger than any rivalry.

New episodes of Resident Alien air Wednesdays at 10:00 p.m. on SyFy.
