The following contains spoilers for Resident Alien Season 2, Episode 9, "Autopsy," which aired Aug. 10 on SyFy.

Resident Alien's Harry is trying to concoct a plan to help Earth fend off an alien apocalypse, but his stay keeps getting more troublesome. Most problematic is his secretly growing affinity for humans, particularly Asta -- because he's fallen for her after working on their differences. However, the military's also hunting for signs of a UFO in the snowy town of Patience and members of the Galvan/Powell Group are following him around town.

Harry's getting more and more wrapped up in the numerous scandals by the day. But as much as he'd like to keep Asta away from the drama, she's equally hell-bent on trying to protect him. Their growing bond backfired terribly when Harry tried to save her from a major problem in the Resident Alien Season 2 mid-season premiere.

Harry messed with Asta's memories in Resident Alien

Before Season 2, Episode 9, "Autopsy," Asta had to shoot a Galvan/Powell operative after he tried to murder Harry and along with D'Arcy, they covered up the death. However, Asta's guilt began to consume her, which almost resulted in her outing herself to Elizabeth Bowen's character Deputy Liv. While she carried on to take care of her family, the trauma was too much to bear -- which Harry recognized.

In "Autopsy," he used his memory-altering powers to wipe the incident from Asta's mind because he wanted her to be happy. But a problem arose when Asta also forgot to make a planned birthday meeting with her estranged daughter Jay. The episode ended with Jay holding a balloon at the diner, waiting for a mom who never showed. This is a major setback for Asta, who has spent all of Resident Alien trying to bridge the gap between herself and Jay after giving her up for adoption.

Harry messed with Asta's memories so she forgot Jay's birthday in Resident Alien

Jay originally hated how Asta gave her up for adoption as a teenager, but slowly warmed to the idea that it was the right thing. She also had a toxic dad, so she had finally begun to connect with Asta, whose fondest dream has been to be a mother to Jay. Yet because of Harry, Asta may have permanently lost that opportunity.

What's also uncertain is how much of Asta's mind Harry has erased. He's not too responsible with his powers, so Asta may have forgotten other aspects of her personality and maybe even some of the affection she held for Harry. While Harry's intentions were good, his tampering with Asta's memory crossed a major line. Hopefully, permanent damage hasn't been done, and Asta doesn't find out, because she won't respond well to the intrusion and Harry ruining the reunion she craved for so long.
