James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is still pretty early in the production process, but a new report teases the return of actor Viola Davis for the upcoming sequel.

According to We Got This Covered, Davis will reprise her role as Amanda Waller in the film. Even though the article notes that it's possible this will change, Waller returning for The Suicide Squad isn't surprising, as she's the main person responsible for assembling the team. Davis first played the character in 2016's Suicide Squad, and this will be the first time she's played her since.

It's not clear at this time who exactly will and won't return for the film. There are reports that Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn in the sequel, while another report puts her return in doubt. Will Smith, who played Deadshot, won't return for the film, though it's said that the production may be looking to recast the role. Most reports currently indicate that Gunn will be looking to take the franchise in a new direction, which means that a lot of actors from the first film probably won't return.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad does not have an announced cast yet. The film is set to hit theaters Aug. 6, 2021.
