The cast of Disney's upcoming The Haunted Mansion film seems to be getting bigger, with Morbius star Jared Leto reportedly joining the ensemble.

According to One Take News, Leto will be heading to The Haunted Mansion as Alistair Crump -- better known to Haunted Mansion enthusiasts as the Hatbox Ghost. Leto will apparently only lend his voice to the role, and the Hatbox Ghost's body will be entirely CGI. Leto is reportedly giving the character a deeper voice than usual, accompanied by the screeching cackles expected of the 99 happy haunts in Disney's legendary haunted house. The Hatbox Ghost is notorious among theme park fans for having been removed from The Haunted Mansion shortly after the ride's opening. He returned to Disneyland in 2015, but he remains conspicuously absent from the Walt Disney World incarnation of the ride.

Disney's Haunted Mansion film has been in the works for some time, with Pacific Rim director Guillermo Del Toro initially attached to the project all the way back in 2010. The movie, based on the popular Disneyland and Walt Disney World ride of the same name, entered full production in August 2020, with Ghostbusters (2016) screenwriter Katie Dippold and Dear White People writer/director Justin Simien attached to write and direct respectively. Del Toro is seemingly no longer involved with the film.

Disney recently released a different Haunted Mansion project for Disney+: Muppets Haunted Mansion. That miniature Muppets feature acted as both a Halloween special for some of television's most musical puppets and a charming homage to the Disney ride. Muppets Haunted Mansion is full of references to the ride, so it's no surprise that the Hatbox Ghost makes an appearance there as well, although there's no Jared Leto. Instead, the popular character is embodied by Fozzie Bear, under the fitting name "Gauzey the Hatbox Bear."

If One Take News' report is accurate, Leto is joining a fairly busy cast. In July 2021, it was reported that LaKeith Stanfield and Tiffany Haddish would enter The Haunted Mansion. A few months later, Cars' Lightning McQueen himself, Owen Wilson joined the cast alongside Disney+'s Ahsoka star Rosario Dawson. Not long after that, it was announced that Danny DeVito would appear in the film -- he will reportedly be playing a "smug professor," in contrast to Stanfield and Haddish's roles as a New Orleans tour guide and a psychic, and Leto's role as an actual ghost.

The Haunted Mansion is currently slated for release on March 10, 2023.
