A recent report claims Marvel's Avengers plans to add Bucky Barnes to the game as its next playable hero.Just days after Marvel's Avengers added its first new playable character in a year, an industry insider said Steve Roger's famed best pal, and at one time brain-washed Hydra agent, will be the next hero. Forbes reported the leak, noting that long-time Marvel's Avengers insider Miller posted the reveal on his Twitter account. Miller did not provide a source for the report, nor did he provide a release window or other details about what fans can expect. RELATED: Marvel's Avengers: How to Play as the Mighty Thor

Miller previously leaked the news that She-Hulk would be the next playable character, claiming Marvel's Avengers had cast actor Krizia Bajos in the role. Apparently, developer Crystal Dynamics put these plans on hold, as shortly after Miller reported that the team had decided to hold back on She-Hulk to time her release with her eponymous show. Instead, they planned to add Jane Foster just in time for her debut in Thor: Love and Thunder. Shortly after, Marvel's Avengers announced Mighty Thor's addition to the team, confirming Miller's reports.

Miller's previous report about She-Hulk was also seemingly confirmed recently on the official Xbox Twitch channel, where guest streamer Techniq revealed that his acting teacher would voice the character. "I won't say her name because I don't know if that was public knowledge yet. I think it is!" he said at the time, incorrectly assuming the reports of She-Hulk's addition to the game had been confirmed. With the reveal of Mighty Thor alongside the recent film and the rumor that She-Hulk won't launch until her show, many fans suspected Crystal Dynamics had decided to use the title as promotional material for upcoming MCU releases. However, if the Bucky Barnes leak is accurate, this would not fit that theory.

This comes months after Crystal Dynamics revealed it had radically altered or canceled its initial roadmap for Marvel's Avengers, which in part included plans to add a new hero every month. At that time, the insiders said the developer decided to forgo more robust updates in favor of regularly released bite-sized additions to the game. Between the entrance of Jane Foster's Mighty Thor, She-Hulk's imminent release and now the rumor of Bucky Barnes' secret addition to the game, it seems unclear what Marvel's Avengers plans for its future.

Marvel's Avengers is available to play on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
