Following reports that Brie Larson was in talks to play the title character in "Captain Marvel," "The Babadook's" Jennifer Kent and Niki Caro have been named as potential directors for the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kent and Caro are both contenders for the position.

Kent is best known for her work on "The Babadook," a horror movie that follows a single mother battling an unseen evil following the death of her husband. Caro's past credits include "Whale Rider," which finds a young Maori girl struggling to overcome the outdated traditions of her patriarchal New Zealand tribe in order to be the new chief.

Last month, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that "we'll be announcing a filmmaker in the next month or two, and probably some cast members later in the summer, at the end of the summer." As such, the timing of these talks lines up with Feige's planned announcements.

Written by Nicole Perlman ("Guardians of the Galaxy") and Meg LeFauve ("Inside Out"), "Captain Marvel" is scheduled for release on March 8, 2019.
