With its official synopsis already describing it as the culmination of a "six-year animated journey," a new report claims that the DC Animated Movie Universe (DCAMU) will, in fact, come to a close in its current form with the release of May's Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.

According to ComicBook.com, Apokolips War will -- at least for the time being -- be the final entry in the DC animated film continuity that officially began with 2014's Justice League: War, which does serve to explain why the Justice League Dark sequel has been built up as being such a huge event. While the film will apparently serve as a stopping point for its specific universe, however, ComicBook.com says Warner Bros. Animation still plans to produce numerous animated features based on DC's characters in the future, such as the upcoming Superman: Man of Tomorrow. After all, the DCAMU is only part of the larger DC Universe Animated Original Movies (DCUAOM) line.

After its continuity was effectively created by the events of 2013's Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, the DC Animated Movie Universe kicked off proper in 2014 with the release of War. Subsequent films in the DCAMU include Son of Batman, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, Batman vs. Robin, Batman: Bad Blood, Justice League vs. Teen Titans, Justice League Dark, Teen Titans: The Judas Contract, Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay, The Death of Superman, Reign of the Supermen and Batman: Hush, with the most recent release being 2019's Wonder Woman: Bloodlines.

Of course, even while still in the era of the DCAMU, Warner Bros. Animation has released out-of-continuity films as part of the larger DCUAOM, such as Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans, Batman: Gotham by Gaslight and Superman: Red Son, among numerous others. If this new report is to be believed, it seems Warner Bros. will be moving on from the DCAMU entirely following the release of Apokolips War and putting the focus on other DCUAOM entries -- again, at least for the time being.
