Although it's said to be a "total reboot," a new report indicates James Gunn's The Suicide Squad will see the return of another familiar character from the first film: Joel Kinnaman's Rick Flag.

According to Discussing Film, Kinnaman will return as the character, though the extent of his return was unstated, so it's entirely possible that he might only appear in the film briefly. The report also says Warner Bros. had no comment on the story, and Kinnaman's representatives have not yet responded. As such, it's entirely possible that this prospective return won't actually happen. This also contradicts a report from last month, which claimed Kinnaman would not return. However, it's entirely possible that the film has changed enough since then to once again warrant Flag's inclusion.

There are currently a lot of rumors swirling around Gunn's first DC Extended Universe film. Viola Davis is reportedly set to reprise her role as Amanda Waller, and the movie will feature Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn in some capacity. Deadshot is also set to return, though Will Smith will not play the character. Instead, actor Idris Elba is being eyed for the role. Jai Courtney has also announced he'll reprise his role as Captain Boomerang. The movie will reportedly also feature Ratcatcher, King Shark, Polka-Dot Man and Peacemaker. One report has also indicated that the film will feature a new alien female character.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
