Reported song titles on the soundtrack for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could hint at the arrival of an "unexpected visitor."
According to Film Music Reporter, the soundtrack for the upcoming sequel reportedly includes 32 tracks overall. The final song on the list is titled, "An Unexpected Visitor," which is likely for a film set to be filled with cameos and character introductions. Composed by Danny Elfman (Batman, Spider-Man, Avengers: Age of Ultron and more), the soundtrack will be released before the movie on May 4.
Following the success of No Way Home, it was reported that Multiverse of Madness would have "more fun with the multiverse," with reshoots including even more cameos and character introductions than originally intended. Among the possible cameos are an appearance from Patrick Stewart as Professor X (as part of the Illuminati) and an appearance from Captain Carter, who was introduced in Marvel's What If...? series. The film will also see the Marvel Cinematic Universe debut of America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gomez, and the return of Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.
Multiverse of Madness wrapped extensive reshoots in January, helmed by director Sam Raimi and Loki head writer Michael Waldron. Raimi took over directorial duties from Scott Derrickson, who directed the first film and departed the sequel over creative differences. Multiverse of Madness will pick up after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home and tie directly into two of Marvel's Disney+ series, WandaVision and Loki, both of which dealt heavily with the multiverse.
Though the Doctor Strange sequel will delve further into the multiverse and introduce villains like Gargantos, Waldron has explained that the multiverse will not be used as a plot device or a "MacGuffin," and instead will act as the film's emotional core. "In every way, it shapes the emotional heart of the story. It has to. The multiverse isn't just a MacGuffin where we're like, 'Okay, this is just a kitschy thing that we're playing with in this movie,'" Waldron said.
"If you're faced with alternate realities and with alternate versions of yourself that has to become the emotional heart, exploring who you might be if you were a different version of yourself, if you made other choices, the right choices or the wrong choices. It's complex stuff, emotionally, and that's exactly why it's so thrilling and so great for a cast as dramatically talented as this one."
Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives in theaters on May 6.
