Warner Bros. and DC are reportedly working on a new live-action John Constantine movie.According to The Direct, J.J. Abrams will produce the Constantine movie through Bad Robot Productions. Tonally, it's said it will resemble the upcoming HBO Max Justice League Dark series, though the lack of casting announcements means it’s unknown if Warner Bros. plans to connect the two stories. It's also unclear if there will be any connections to the similarly reported Zatanna movie, despite the two characters having a complicated on-again, off-again romantic history in the comics.RELATED: Legends of Tomorrow Is the Constantine Season 2 Fans Wished ForOne previous hint about this announcement came in December from The Batman co-writer Mattson Tomlin. Tomlin, an avid Hellblazer fan, shared a GIF from American Psycho with the revised quote, "I need to buy some comic books," leading to speculation that he was working on something Constantine-related.

If accurate, this report would herald John Constantine's second appearance in a live-action movie. Keanu Reeves originally played the cynical occult detective in 2005’s Constantine, and, while the film has a vocal fanbase, it was neither well-received by critics nor a truly faithful adaptation of the character. Actor Matt Ryan has since played a more comics-accurate version of Constantine, first appearing in NBC’s short-lived series before cameoing on Arrow and becoming a series regular on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, making him an official part of the CW Arrowverse. Ryan has also voiced Constantine in various animated movies, including the recent Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.

The reported Constantine movie announcement comes on the heels of other big DC updates like Michael Keaton reprising his role as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming Flash movie.
