Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War will reportedly receive 12 more maps during and after its next two competitive seasons.

With a recent post on Twitter, a prominent Call of Duty leaker known as The MW2 Ghost claimed a total of 12 unannounced maps are on track to join Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War's competitive map pool. The development team at Treyarch has already designed the maps and plans to release them throughout the game's fifth and sixth seasons, and possibly beyond. The account behind the leak has been known to correctly publicize insider information on various Call of Duty titles in the past, lending legitimacy to the report. Sure enough, the official Call of Duty Twitter account later confirmed Season 5 will indeed include a slew of 5 new maps, providing a trailer for what's to come.

The leaker correctly speculated the first of the upcoming maps will arrive in Cold War's competitive Season 5, which will begin Aug. 12. While the leaker incorrectly presumed three maps would release throughout Season 5, Treyarch confirmed Season 5 will actually bring 5 new maps to the game: Echelon, Slums, Drive-In, Zoo and Showroom. Four of the maps will be standard battlegrounds for faceoffs between two teams of six, and Showroom will be a small, close-quarters 2v2 arena. All five maps will arrive in a free content update when the season begins on Aug. 12.

In the original tweet, Ghost speculated seven additional maps are on track for launch. Some, according to the leak, will arrive in Season 6, while others will arrive in a post-season format. They did not reveal any information about the content of the unannounced forthcoming maps. In line with previous Cold War seasons, Season 5 is expected to last about two months. Season 6 should then arrive, along with another update from Treyarch detailing what these additional maps could entail.

And with every Cold War competitive season, Treyarch has added a plethora of new content to the game. The team previously announced Season 5's content update will include new weapons, new Operators, a returning game mode in Demolition and a new mode called Double Agent.

Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War has been an extremely successful current- and next-generation console title since its launch in late 2020. Though the community's reception of the game has been mixed, the latest entry in the long-running first-person shooter series has sold extremely well and garnered generally positive reviews. The next entry in the series the Call of Duty series, allegedly titled Vanguard, is being developed by Sledgehammer Games and will release in November.

Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software and published by Activision, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
