Sicario and Guardians of the Galaxy star Benicio del Toro is reportedly being eyed to play a villain in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad.

The report comes from Geeks WorldWide. That outlet says del Toro's potential character is currently being referred to as "The Mayor." The character is described as an “irascible old warrior who lives for war.” The production was reportedly looking at The Mask of Zorro star Antonio Banderas for the role at one point.

It's unclear from the report just who del Toro would be playing, as there are a lot of DC characters that might fit this description. At this time, this report remains unconfirmed, so it very well may turn out to prove false or talks might fall through.

This report follows another that Michael Rooker, who played Yondu in the two Guardians of the Galaxy films, is in talks to play King Shark in the film.

Will Smith will not return as Deadshot.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
