Even though the Arrowverse's "Elseworlds" crossover event containing numerous references to Batman/Bruce Wayne and the upcoming Batwoman solo series set to take the franchise to Gotham City proper, it looks like the Dark Knight won't be joining The CW's DC television universe anytime soon.

According to a report from The Wrap, Batwoman will see the Arrowverse get "as close as it possibly can" to Batman without ever physically introducing him. Apparently, even though the franchise's roster of DC characters is expanding with Gotham-based faces thanks to Batwoman, Bruce Wayne himself "remains off-limits for the foreseeable future" as far as The CW is concerned.

"It's a post-Batman Gotham City," executive producer Sarah Schechter said. "What is it like after the heroes leave?"

Notably, this is in contrast to Fox's Gotham, which largely features a pre-Batman Gotham City. At any rate, however, both apparently aim to show not how the city is affected by Batman, but rather, how it is affected by the absence of Batman.

Beyond Bruce Wayne himself, it's not clear what other characters or aspects of the Batman mythology will be allowed to appear in the Arrowverse. However, it's worth noting that "Elseworlds" featured appearances from the Bat-Signal and Arkham Asylum and referenced several of Batman's most famous villains.

As "Elseworlds" established, Bruce Wayne has departed the Arrowverse's version Gotham City indefinitely, leaving his cousin Kate Kane (played by Ruby Rose) in charge as both the caretaker of his company and as Gotham's new crimefighter. A pilot for Kate's solo spinoff series was officially ordered by The CW early this year.

Written by Caroline Dries and developed by Bertlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, Batwoman stars Ruby Rose, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Dougray Scott, Elizabeth Anweis and Nicole Kang. There is currently no announced release date for the Batwoman pilot.
