Texas Representative Dan Crenshaw showed off his special glass eye emblazoned with the Captain America shield to Evans, who seemed impressed, referring to it on Twitter as “A VERY cool use of vibranium.”
Houston, TX’s Rep. Crenshaw is a former Navy SEAL who served on SEAL Team Three. In 2012, an IED detonation took his right eye, but he continued to serve before medically retiring from service in 2016. Since then he’s taken to politics, and in 2018 he was elected to his first term in the House of Representatives.
Evans' trip to Washington wasn't a publicity stop. The Avengers Endgame actor also chatted with Veteran’s Affairs Chairman Johnny Isakson about trade relationships, as well as South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, who Evans warned not to repeat any Endgame secrets or else they'd both be turned to dust.
Evans is no stranger to the inner workings of Washington, having made several trips over the years. He’s made more than a few trips to Capitol Hill, meeting regularly with sitting Senators and Representatives from both parties to discuss on-going issues. On Twitter, he’s remained very politically active, regularly commenting on and calling for action on social issues. Most recently he made headlines calling attention to a series of tweets from President Donald Trump regarding climate change, and he's made it known he won't stop talking politics, even if it costs him his job.
"Look, I'm in a business where you've got to sell tickets," Evans said in a 2017 interview with Esquire. "But, my God, I would not be able to look at myself in the mirror if I felt strongly about something and didn't speak up. I think it's about how you speak up. We're allowed to disagree. If I state my case and people don't want to go see my movies as a result, I'm okay with that."
Chris Evans appears next in Avengers Endgame, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and starring Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Chadwick Boseman, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland and Anthony Mackie. The film hits theaters April 26.
